(Mar. 2, 2011 – Slidell, LA) – Learning how to make responsible and healthy choices is a lesson teens will carry into successful adulthoods. Making those lessons fun and memorable is the motivation behind the second annual special fair just for teenage girls in the community: A Day for Girls' Health.
The event will be held on Mar. 19 from 1 – 5 p.m. in the SMH Regional Cancer Center, located at 1120 Robert Blvd. in Slidell. It will feature important education on women's health issues, self-esteem building sessions, advice on grooming and a variety of information booths, among other attractions.
A Day for Girls' Health is sponsored by the Slidell Memorial Hospital Parenting Center, SMH Regional Cancer Center, Junior Auxiliary of Slidell, and Camellia City OB/GYN.
Girls will take part in educational iChats and visit information booths provided by business and community groups, all designed to give them a positive look at inner and outer beauty as well as tools for a safe and healthy future. Door prizes, free give-aways and beauty treats will be available. A fashion show, caricature drawings and a live radio remote from The Lake-WYLK 94.7 will also be part of the events for the afternoon.
Two educational iChats will be a special feature of this year's event:
· LOL (Listen Out Loud): an open conversation with older teen girls to help girls navigate through relationships, social networking, and the pitfalls and high points of being a teen in today's world. Moderator for this iChat will be Anna Pizza Caruso, MSW, LCSW.
· BFF (Be Fit with Fred): Fred Zoller, a CrossGates Family Fitness personal trainer, will demonstrate practical ways to make important changes toward feeling good and being healthy.
