SMH “Promises” image campaign earns national honors

The Telly Awards has named Slidell Memorial Hospital's multi-faceted marketing "Our Promise to You” campaign as a double Bronze winner in the 35th Annual Telly Awards. The campaign was produced and directed by Joe Sanford, president of Pelican Creative Services, based in Covington, under the supervision and creative direction of Sam Caruso, Jr., and Jennifer Berger of the SMH Business Development Department.

With nearly 12,000 entries from all 50 states and numerous countries, this is truly an honor. The SMH campaign was selected for a Bronze Telly for the marketing video and a Bronze Telly for the television campaign. They were judged against some of the most effective marketing strategies developed last year by a broad array of industries.

"The‘Promises' campaign has engaged both our community and our employees,” SMH Chief Executive Officer Bill Davis said. "It's not just some anonymous voice speaking on the videos and other digital media, it's the people you see when you walk through our doors, which makes it very personal to our staff, who cares so much about you they promise to give you nothing short of their best. We all promise to work hard to keep you well and to work hard to get you better if you do get sick or injured.”

SMH Business Development Director Sam Caruso, Jr., said the campaign proved to be a morale booster to employees, who were able to speak on camera about what they did every day to help patients and the community. "It was an inclusive campaign – every part of the hospital participated and enjoyed the experience,” Caruso said. Because the campaign was designed by Sanford and his team to make effective use of digital media, material from the campaign has been used across communications platforms and therefore dramatically cut costs versus a more traditional approach, Caruso said.

Other Pelican team members who contributed to the campaign are Jenny Landry of Magnolia Media and Jonathan Bourgeois of Bourgeois Design. Pelican Creative Services is a group of experienced creative, public relations and media specialists who produce customized marketing strategies and materials for a range of clients. It is a division of Pelican Pictures, Inc., which for over the last 20 years has produced some of the most memorable and effective marketing campaigns in the region; produced innumerable segments for national clients; and, written, directed, shot and edited award-winning documentary, corporate and narrative films.

The Telly Awards was founded in 1979 and is the premier award honoring outstanding local, regional and cable TV commercials and programs; the finest video and film productions; and, online commercials, video and films. Winners represent the best work of the most respected advertising agencies, production companies, television stations, cable operators, and corporate video departments in the world.
